Time for a change

When the candidates first started lining up I was with Ms. Clinton but now that the election cycle is in full swing I have to say that I have changed my opinion and moved to Mr Obama. Not that I am a democrat, I actually consider myself an independent, but you have to admire Mr Obama's business savvy to outfox politicians from the "old school".
.

I am sick of old school politics and the Clintons are as old school politics as they come. Ms Clinton was the first to go negative on Mr Obama and Bill has been a distraction at best. Now I believe that the Bill Clinton was a good President even though he had personal scruples of a pimp, but still the country did well under his watch. The Republicans on the other hand have screwed up this country but good and have made America a laughing stock throughout the world. Mr Cheney is an evil person and although I don't believe that Mr Bush is evil or bad I do believe that he surrounded himself with buffoons and as a result he will go down as one of the worst Presidents this country has ever had.

So people are tired of the same old garbage and want change and a fresh face. Mr Obama represents both. However he seems to be a little bit short on substance and I would like to hear more about his ideas when we are facing a record deficit and a war in which we can't win. The economy is in the toilet and we just cannot afford any more tax cuts while promising programs like universal health care coverage. Social security is in trouble of going bankrupt and the we have lost over $9 billion in Iraq. That's $9 billion that cannot be accounted for and seems to have just disappeared while the people in New Orleans are living in contaminated trailers.

So when you get tired of the same ol same ol you look to change and the young people in this country believe that Mr Obama is the man. Can he lead a country? That jury is still out but this country is so screwed up now it is going to take one hell of a leader to bring us together and make the tough choices that need to be made to get us back on track.

On the other side is Mr McCain, a true war hero in every sense of the words. I like Mr McCain but I am concerned that he will bow too much to the right wing of the party to get their endorsements. The fact that Rush hates him is a positive in my book but still he wants to keep troops in Iraq possibly for the next "100 years". A military victory is possible in Iraq in the short term but this area has been fighting for hundreds and thousands of years. Anyone who believes that our presence does anything but incite fanatics to hate us more is just kidding themselves. We don't belong in the area until the people of these countries want peace and are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to win peace.

The one thing I hope doesn't happen is that the Democratic convention becomes a tug of war. If we can't unite behind one candidate then we can't unite as a country and we have been through enough.
