in the 21st Century
The
purpose of business is
not primarily to maximize shareholder value.
Now before
you gasp and say “oh my God” think about this for a
second. You see the idea is that happy, empowered
employees beget happy customers. Happy customers mean
more business and good business and a level of trust
that will be communicated in our wired world. Why
don’t more CEO’s get this? Good question !

Work can really
suck
Every year
or so most of us run into something called a "team
building event" at work. This usually involves a day
off site doing something boring with people you don't
want to associate with in or out of the office.
Managers feel they need team building events to bring
people together but the reality is that most of us
would rather be at the dentist getting root canal
than attending a team building event.

How many
drivers need to use cell phones and how many people
are that important that they need to check their
Blackberry's every 5 minutes? Enough is enough ! I
mean I see drivers just going along and you can tell
that they are just "gabbing" on their cells. In
meetings people are always checking their
Blackberry's every 5 minutes because God forbid they
should miss an eMail. The truth is that all these
devices invade our personal lives and when we leave
the office they should be shut off and put in the

There comes a time
when we all have to make a choice between which path
to take in our careers. Do we do what the company
wants us to do to keep people happy or do we push
back when we feel that our customers, and patients,
come first? I made my choice and I am not sure where
the path leads but the further I go down this path
the more I will learn about myself, others, and what
people respect in today’s workplace.
