Women and social media
People seem surprised by the popularity of social media but to me it's a natural evolution of the web to meet the needs of people to connect with each other. While there are still a lot of people who believe that social media is a trend that will soon pass my belief is that it is here to stay and is defining how people communicate with each other. The platforms may change and evolve but users are well aware of the value of social media.
Women
communicate to express feelings; men communicate to
say something. That has not changed and the latest
data from eMarketer does show that women are in
fact both using social media and using it to share
information and opinions. Men are not likely, for
example, to go on a social media site and talk
about a negative brand experience but you can bet
that women are and do. The people at Motrin found
that out the hard way.
What does this mean for marketers?
-Marketers need to identify and reach out to key
influencers within the social media arena.
-If your product is targeted toward women not using
social media could be a huge mistake.
-Identify what makes your product make people talk
and fuel the conversation to keep buzz
going.
